About NWESD’s Attendance and Reengagement Program
The NWESD’s Attendance and Reengagement program is designed to address chronic absenteeism, which has been compounded by the effects of the pandemic. Our services are provided free of charge to school districts and aim to support the important and ongoing reengagement work being done in schools.
Building from the understanding that chronic absenteeism is often a symptom of larger issues, our program works holistically to support with direct services and program development, and it fits into existing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a part of high-quality, inclusive education.
Specialists work primarily with students and their families and are available to support district and school leaders. Coordinators work with district and school leadership teams to increase sustainability of these efforts.
Resources
Showing up for class matters. Teachers, principals, and school leaders know this, and data* confirms it. As early as the first month of school, chronic absence can be an early warning sign of academic struggles for students in all grade levels. By sixth grade, it becomes a key predictor that a student will drop out of high school.
Our areas of focus
Reduce the rate of chronic absenteeism and reengage students with school.Â
Collaborate with school districts to engage with students and families to assist overcoming barriers to student success.
